Knox-Metropolitan and St. Paul’s people made a fine showing at the ICPM lunch at Bissell last Sunday. We provided 45 loaves of delicious sandwiches, cookies, pickles, fruit and vegetables. Mont Zion Lutheran church members partnered with us to feed about 377 inner city folks. We want to thank the many people who generously donated funds to purchase food, prepared the sandwiches, baked cookies, cut veggies, and went downtown on Sunday morning to serve the food. Those that we fed really appreciated the food.

Somali Refugee Family Summer Update
Knox-Metropolitan Refugee Support Committee
July 23 will mark one year since the family arrived in Edmonton. It has been a year of learning, adjusting and adapting for the family, and all those who have helped them. They have taken great strides in settling into their new life in Canada.
Congratulations, Iqra and Ismael!
Iqra and Ismael were the joint recipients of the Michael Tarbox Award presented annually by Malcolm Tweddle School. The award is presented annually to a student who has overcome adversity in achieving their educational goals. Iqra and Ismael are the youngest children in our family. We thank Malcolm Tweddle School for the support they have given Iqra and Ismael this past year.
Educational programs continue...
The rest of the family is just as committed and are enrolled in programs over the summer to continue learning English and Canadian culture.
Tennis anyone?
The family is interested in learning to play tennis. Does anyone have tennis rackets they would donate to the family? If so, please contact Clare Algajer.
Dental and Medical Costs
Due to the generous
support of the church and community we have managed to fulfill our obligation
and cover the families living expenses for their first year. We have also paid
off their Federal Transportation Loan, which relieves them of a great financial
burden. We do still need to raise a final $2500.00 to cover their remaining
medical and dental expenses, and would appreciate any contribution towards this
amount.
School Supplies
All 5 family members will continue their schooling in the fall. We have placed a box in the Knox-Metropolitan Narthex to gather donated school supplies for the family.
Thank you again for the generous support shown to this striving new Canadian family.

Hi everyone. On August 26th I am doing a bike ride to raise money for
the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The ride is 100 km with Lance
Armstrong and is in Jasper (we ride 50 km UP from JPL to Maligne Lake and back
to JPL). There are 45 riders and we have a goal to raise $25,000 each for
breast cancer research. This is a bit
of a stretch for me because I have never cycled this big a hill before (we go
up 2,400 feet) nor have I ever cycled 100 km nor have I personally pledged to
raise $25,000; but for a cause like this, it is worth the stretch! Here is how you can support this
effort: go to www.cbcf.org click on the
Prairies NWT region box, click on the LinkPink box that will then display right
below it, scroll down the list of riders until you see my name, click on my
name and then click on Sponsor Me. I am
going to match all donations. Thanks for your support. -Mike Gendron
