Knox-Met Helps with ICPM Lunch

The Inner City Pastoral Ministry (ICPM) offers a church service and lunch each Sunday at the Bissell Centre in central Edmonton. Knox-Met and Mt. Zion Lutheran Church folks provided food for about 300 people last Sunday. Those that were fed were genuinely thankful for the sandwiches, veggies, pickles, fruit and sweets that we took. Thank you to those who made generous donations of money for food. Thanks also to the other helpers. On Saturday morning help 14 people made sandwiches and chopped and sliced veggies and fruit. About 20 people brought cookies and squares they had baked. On Sunday, all the food was transported downtown in Pat Barnes’ truck and 7 folks helped to serve lunch at Bissell. The ICPM lunches in the inner city would not be possible without the contribution of food and helping hands from people like you at Knox- Metropolitan. A hearty thanks to all of you! Many very needy people were fed.

Ad hoc Refugee Committee

The Church Board has supported a motion to sponsor a refugee family that has been pre-approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Offering Before Leaving on Vacation

Many of us will be traveling over the next few months enjoying summer vacation.  If you are planning on being away in the coming months, we ask that you kindly consider making your usual offering ahead of your scheduled vacation.  This will help to ensure the Church is able to meet its financial commitments over the summer months.

Travel to Israel/Palestine, Egypt and Jordan!

April 21 – May 12, 2009

You are invited to join Nancy Steeves and Dawn Waring for this exciting, unforgettable, 22-day “travel experience.” It will be more than a “tour.”  It is a journey through time, both ancient and contemporary.  It is a study-tour, a pilgrimage, an opportunity for reflection.  We will visit historically significant sites and pilgrimage locations, and we will journey to places “off the beaten track.”  Along the way, we will be in conversation with individuals and organizations working for peace and justice.  If you are interested, please email Dawn (dwaringca@yahoo.ca) for a brochure.  Space is limited to 25 travelers.  Optional academic credit is available through St. Stephen’s College.

Children’s Summer Sabbath Place

Summer Sabbath Place” is held in the Assembly Hall for some slower paced activities. Leadership is provided by some of our church schoolteachers.  Now that the Day Care has opened downstairs our children are gathering in the same area and enjoying this space, which is both new and exciting to our children.  The garden playground will be used also.

Since Knox-Met is proactive in providing a safe church environment for our children our policy to this effect means we can only have leaders with a current security clearance at KM to offer leadership during Summer Sabbath Place. So our teachers are invited to take a look at their holiday schedule and see if there's a Sunday you could offer to be in Summer Sabbath Place. Thanks so much and your support is appreciated.

For those Sundays where we do not have teachers there will be activity packs available in the Fellowship Centre, just off the Narthex that the children can pick up and take back to the pew or stay in the Fellowship Center.  The activity packs will have a story card, games and crayons.
