Can
You Help Bring Hope?
The
Somalian family sponsored by Knox-Metropolitan United Church will be
arriving soon from Nairobi, Kenya, where they are now refugees.
The father was killed when militia invaded their village and the 39 year
old mother is now caring for 4 children on her own. Her daughters
are aged 18, 16 and 9, and her son is aged 7. The family is now only awaiting
the completion of their medical requirements, and we are
expecting them to arrive in Edmonton sometime in the spring. This family has
been through a great deal of trauma and we are looking forward to
supporting them in their move to and settlement in Canada.
Taking
responsibility for the settlement of this family means that we will be
providing full support in the areas of housing, food, household items,
clothing, healthcare, education, transportation, English as a second
language training, and social support. We will be responsible for
supporting the family financially for their first year in Edmonton. To
adequately cover these costs we need to raise $25,000.00.
We also hope
to be able to help them repay the cost of their airfares, which they
are otherwise required to do when they have been in Edmonton for
12 months.
Knox-Metropolitan United Church
chose this family from the United Church of Canada's special list of
refugees seeking sponsorship for entrance into Canada.
